What is retrofit?
Improving existing homes for a more sustainable future
Retrofit is about enhancing the energy performance of existing buildings, through carefully planned improvements. It reduces energy use, cuts carbon emissions and creates warmer, healthier homes for residents.

retrofitting and decarbonisation is uk policy
The government’s 2020 election manifesto announced a £3.8 billion Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), to be rolled out over ten years starting in 2021/22. The programme is focused on helping housing providers improve the energy efficiency of their existing homes through retrofit works, with the aim of bringing properties up to an EPC C equivalent standard by 2030.
Through the SHDF, the government aims to cut carbon emissions, lower residents’ fuel bills, address fuel poverty, and support the growth of green jobs, while also delivering warmer and more energy-efficient homes.
